Weibel Family 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon, Redwood Valley
Harvest
Good
and abundant spring rains set up for a good and normal crop size
for the vineyards. Summer was typical in temperature and
sunshine, with veraison and ripening happening normally.
September ushered in blistering temperatures for a week or two,
pushing grape sugars up rapidly. Harvest began on a more typical
starting date throughout Mendocino, with our cabernet sauvignon
coming in two harvests, on before the mid-October rain showers,
and one a couple of weeks later. The result was full-flavored
grapes for our Weibel Family 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon.
Tasting Notes
Weibel’s cabernet sauvignon vineyards are located in Redwood
Valley, a small, viticultural area with unique weather patterns
and soil compositions. Mendocino County has warm days like Napa
Valley and Sonoma County, but cooler nights, which accentuates
the delicate flavor nuances in the grapes, as well as promoting
a refreshing crispness. Our estate vineyard showcases that
classic Mendocino County character superbly.
Rich, deep garnet color with aromas of dark fruits, hints of
tobacco, and toast, this smooth and well-structured Cab will age
beautifully. A signature varietal of Redwood Valley, Weibel
Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits a rich, full, ripe style with a
bounty of fruit on the palate and a long, intriguing finish.
Cabernet Sauvignon is king with many entrées, accompanying
classic dishes of beef, lamb, pork, and venison – roasted,
grilled, or braised - with grace and style.
